Modeling Techniques for Magnetostrictive Actuators

چکیده
Techniques for modeling hysteresis and material nonlinearities in magnetostrictive materials are presented. Hys-teresis in these materials is due to both the driving magnetic eld and stress relations within the material and is signiicant throughout most of the drive range of the material. Two characterizations are presented here. The rst model is posed in terms of Preisach operators and is purely phenomenological in nature. The second model is physics-based with parameters related to measurable properties of the input magnetic eld. The two approaches are illustrated in the context of an Euler-Bernoulli beam model which incorporates magnetostrictive actuators.

One of the best vibration control methods using smart actuators are semi-active approaches which are as strong as active methods and need no external energy supply such as passive ones. Models for magnetostrictive actuators need to include rate-independent hysteresis phenomena, magneto-elastic coupling, and eddy current losses that vary nonlinearly with the frequency of the input. In this paper, we study a low dimensional model for magnetostrictive rod actuators that describes the physical phenomena which are most prominent in the frequency range 0-800Hz. We show that the solu...

A novel dynamic model is proposed for the hysteresis in magnetostrictive actuators by coupling a Preisach operator to an ordinary di0erential equation, and a parameter identi2cation method is described. متن کاملA generalized Prandtl–Ishlinskii model for characterizing the hysteresis and saturation nonlinearities of smart actuators
Smart actuators, such as shape memory alloy (SMA) and magnetostrictive actuators, exhibit saturation nonlinearity and hysteresis that may be symmetric or asymmetric. The Prandtl–Ishlinskii model employing classical play operators has been used to describe the hysteresis properties of smart actuators that are symmetric in nature. In this study, the application of a generalized play operator capa...
